Plain to Fancy on a Budget !

After realizing that I have a perfect wall in my family room to put a french armoire, I feverishly set out to  antique shop for one, hoping to find a real deal somewhere. After a couple weeks of searching  I soon found out how hard it is to find a pretty one with roses on it and that the few I found were not in my small budget at all! Most of them ranged between(1,500 - 5,000). So I decided to get a plain one that I found at a local antique store "Granny's" and fix it up with a little paint and embellish it myself by adding carved roses to it. I liked the arched top, the curved legs, the size, and the price was perfect, only $300.00! Here is the kinda before and after.......

Gorgeous Vintage Rose Patchwork Quilt

Lucy of Paris Flea Market has her own blog now http://parisfleamarketdiary.blogspot.com I just love the things she decorates with and sells. She is known for her vintage romantic style with lots of chandeliers and old architecture mixed with rose barkcloth pillows and upholstered french furniture.  I met her about 8-years ago when I fell in love with a french settee she was selling at the Rose Bowl flea-market. The settee has been a prop in my studio ever since. She has also been  featured several times in decorating magazines. Here is a wonderful quilt she made out of vintage rose fabric scraps!

Weekend Painting Project a $20.00 makeover!

It's amazing to me how a little paint , antiquing stain and some vintage pulls can change the appearance and feeling of a piece of furniture. I brought this pine tv cabinet wth me from the beach cottage when I moved here to the country. With my new decorating being done on a very tight budget I'm always looking for ways to incorporate things I already have into my new decorating scheme without spending money. In this case it was only my time and labor.I had found a photo of an antique french hutch which I just loved the color of and decided to mix the paint color from some old paint I had in the garage. I had collected quite a few vintage handles and pulls over the past year and I was so pleased I had these 4 that matched, at $5.00 each equaling a $20.00 makeover! P.S. I might still do some decorative painting on the doors but the idea hasn't come to me yet. Christie
